Part one starts out with the main character "Santiago" arriving at an old abandoned church with his sheep. This sets a very peaceful, almost quiet tone for the novel. I really like how the author describes the beauty of the scenery around the characters, it helps the reader feel like they're in the moment and can relate to whats happening more easily.
